Here's a question for you.

The other day Nadine, I, and others were talking about an essay by Orson Scott Card in which he said:

"I’m playing the “patriotism” card. But not the way you think.

Our country is at war. And it’s a war in which victory absolutely depends on the Muslim world perceiving it as a war between the US and its allies on one side, and fanatical murderous terrorists on the other.

If it is ever perceived as a war against Islam, then we have lost. The world has lost."

Basically he's saying that anyone who would leave the impression that the US fights as Christians is unpatriotic.

So, here we have the Mt. Soledad War Memorial, which is in the form of a big cross. Now, war memorials typically take the form of a statue of servicemen or maybe service insignia, or some military hardware like a canon, or national symbols like the flag. But this one is a cross.

What would the bad guys think if they found out how strongly some Americans are arguing to keep this war memorial in the form of a cross on federal land? Would they not think "Christian army"? Maybe even riot over it?

Is it not unpatriotic to leave them with the impression that we are Christian warriors by going to the mat for this war memorial in the form of a cross? According to Card's criteria, it would seem so. Or is making our army look like a religious war only a problem when the lefties do it?
