Zonder, Yup, a VAT sounds like a variation on our sales tax, except sales taxes can vary from region to region and are tacked onto the price of the goods and services, rather than figured into the total price. The exception to this would be cigarettes, gasoline, liquor, etc., which have built in taxes in addition to the tacked on prices. In asking about Laz's age and wife, I have a hunch you are referring to the fictional Heinlein character from which he draws his SI alias. I must confess to not having read any Heinlein. I know.
