I got hold of the 8-K that was issued on 11 August. Here is the pertinent information:
> For the 31-day period ended July 31, 1997, >Ascend Communications, Inc. a Delaware corporation, had >consolidated net income of approximately $2.9 million >and consolidated sales of approximately $62.8 million.
The number of shares wasn't listed. But it was listed in the 10-Q report covering the previous quarter, ending July 31. The number of shares outstanding was given as:
>The number of shares outstanding of the Registrant's Common >Stock,$0.001 par value, was 188,864,493 as of July 31, 1997.
Now we make our earnings per share estimate: $2.9 million / 188,864,493 EQUALS $0.0153
That's LESS than 2 cents a share! They rounded it UP to 2 cents per share.
Yes, you CAN make an estimate. It's actually worse than what we were told.
