Basically he's saying that anyone who would leave the impression that the US fights as Christians is unpatriotic. No he didn't. He said if they conveyed the impression that this was a war against Islam it would be unpatriotic. He also mentioned that Islamists fear Christianity much less than the Godless West at this point. Trying to elide a cross on a war memorial into a new Crusade is playing very fast and loose with Card's message.
