AO Mosenergo announces environmentally friendly efficiency drive
2 June 2005 - Russian energy producer, AO Mosenergo, is to implement a range of schemes designed to curb its environmental footprint and increase its generating efficiency.

Low toxin burners will be installed on four of the company's boilers with the aim of cutting in half the amount of nitrogen oxide they emit to the atmosphere. Plans to reduce noise levels at its CHP plants will include fitting noise reduction devices to offending equipment.

AO Mosenergo also announced that it is to work with companies outside Russia to reduce its CO2 emissions, a move that could see many Russian power plants refurbished.

A statement released by the company read: "Participation in such joint projects involving foreign partnerships would enable power companies to upgrade and replace equipment at power stations that run on solid fuel with steam and gas equipment."

In 2005, the company expects to save approximately Roubles440m ($15.5m) in 2005 with the introduction of efficiency technologies. Last year AO Mosenergo was Roubles200m better off as it saved 17.5 million kWh of electricity and around 60 000 Gcal of heat through increased efficiency and the introduction of new technologies.
