Check today's Wall Street Journal for an excellent article on the problems they are facing. I've never tried AOL, but Compuserve messed up my password several times. I could not believe that if you can't log on to the service they had no way to report trouble. Also, their 800 number was always busy, so there was no way to reach them.

That was Compuserve. I quit as soon as I did reach someone. I only used a few days of the free month. At the time AOL had an even poorer reputation for customer service.

Now I am with a small Internet ISP. In six months I've never had a dial tone problem or a random disconnect. I can pick up the phone and ask him questions. All for $19.95 per month unlimited usage.

The time sharing services are going to need some breakthrough in product differentiation to avoid being run over on the Info super highway.
