Have you stopped for a minute and thought about why the majority of Muslims who are law abiding hate us so much? And please don't tell me that they are jealous of what we have. The majority of the suicide bombers who committed the 9/11 atrocity were from the upper middle classes.

yes, I've thought quite a bit about it. It's from a poverty of dignity, as Friedman likes to say. This people are fed hate propaganda from their early childhood in their mosques and schools. They are taught that Islam is the greatest relgion and only true religion and that people of other faiths are their enemies. They are taught intolerance and that is reinforced with every action by their gov't, most notably Saudi Arabia. Then when they start to look around they see that the Muslim countries are backward and repressive in comparison to the Western countries. They have no jobs or if they do, they are jobs that aren't impactful, instead they are handout jobs from the gov't. Their rage is fed and they turn that rage on the West, most notably the U.S.

As far as your other comment, if we are still in Iraq in large numbers past 2006-7, I will start to believe that we have no choice but to leave the Iraqi gov't to the wolves to do it the best they can alone. But until then, I'd like to give it at least the same number of years we gave Germany and Japan.
