StarGuide Digital Networks Introduces the StarGuide III Digital Multimedia Satellite Receiver
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1997--StarGuide Digital Networks Inc. (StarGuide), a leading developer and manufacturer of digital satellite multimedia broadcasting technology announced today the newest addition to the StarGuide Receiver product family, the StarGuide III Receiver.
New features of the StarGuide III digital multimedia receiver include user-selectable SCPC or MCPC operation, MPEG 2-DVB compliant transmission and variable aggregate output rates of 128 Kbps to 8.0 Mbps, making the StarGuide III Receiver an ideal solution for radio, television and private multimedia network broadcasters.
"In today's world of ever-changing business demands, broadcasters require network systems with built-in flexibility and expandability," said Brian Peabody, StarGuide's vice president of sales and marketing.
Continuing the StarGuide design of a single platform for multiple services, the StarGuide III Receiver is standard-equipped with a single analog stereo pair output, one high-speed synchronous data port, one low-speed asynchronous data port with data packet filtering and dial back capability, and two option card slots.
The two option card slot architecture of the StarGuide III Receiver provides service expansion capabilities through the addition of low-cost, modular MPEG 2 video or MUSICAM(R) MPEG II audio decoder modules. The StarGuide III Receiver's one box solution for multiple services provides broadcasters with significant cost savings in overall equipment investment, operating expense and system maintenance.
The StarGuide III Receiver utilizes similar technology as its predecessor, the StarGuide II, and therefore derives the same benefits of virtual bandwidth selectivity, software upgradeability and receiver addressability. The StarGuide II and StarGuide III Receivers are fully compatible and can coexist in the same network with the StarGuide MX3(TM) Multiplexer Uplink system.
The StarGuide III Receiver will be available in the fourth quarter of 1997 and is sold through StarGuide Digital Networks and its authorized distributors worldwide. The StarGuide III Receiver is competitively priced for all configurations.
