My point was what is the basis for your view on abortions? Is it religious? If so, why should your religious views be given precedence over others? And why are yours more right than others?

Religious views have been the historical method of passing moral values, later legal systems enshrined them to build functional societies. There is no point in denying the historical evolution of moral/legal systems. People on the left (or radical right for that matter) that think we can surgically snip all overtures of religion from public life are, IMHO acting clueless, about historical facts. What we should be doing is ensuring that the state does not trample on others rights by promoting specific religious behavior, i.e. say Evangelical Christian over Jew (pick your example).

Remember, the Founding Fathers came from European countries which at the time were rife with religious oppression. Freedom of thought, freedom of expression and freedom of religion are intertwined
