Putin is a very dangerous person aspiring to dictatorship

I doubt that, Haim. It does appear that central power in Russia is increasing, but it is a totally different universe compared with the times when they came to Hungary in 1956. And it is a potential problem when you have an aging billionaire roaming the world playing kingmaker - and paying for revolutions. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I think that Russia behaved with remarkable restraint, considering that Ukraine might be on the way to join NATO. Russians have reason to be concerned - right now, there is no tension between them and NATO, but who knows what will happen in the future? Only a few years ago NATO bombed Belgrade and other Serb cities - despite strongest protests from the Russians.

I haven't been to Russia since the 1970's... but I have a friend who spends there - on business - several weeks a year. He tells me that the degree of freedom over there is remarkable. Last October I spent some time in Vilnius, Lithuania. The place is blooming, the city is a gem - and I don't think there is a power in the world which could make them go back to the old times.
