I agree that you probably are out of touch with the majority who voted for Bush. I wonder, for example, how many close friends you have who are members of the American Legion, or who consider the opening day of deer hunting season one of the (in many cases the) most important day of the year.

That's one good thing about living in a small town; you have to know and get along with all sorts of people because if you restrict yourself to only those who hold your basic views you have almost no scope for friends. So, for example, when I go to a little league umpires meeting I have to get along with both srong liberals and strong conservatives. While I'm waiting in the barber shop I participate in all sorts of conversations and hear a wide range of views. On our Lions Club projects I will be working cheek-to-jowl (and at the fair booth it is very much that because we have a lot of workers in a small space) with those whose cars wear "Send Bush back to the Bush Leagues" bumper stickers and those whose cars wear "Save America. Torture Kerry" bumper stickers.

It's educational, I can tell you that.
