HSS

Why and how HSS helps people with some types of hearing loss.

"For more than 6 million Americans, hearing aids are the best available solution for everything from mild to profound hearing loss. Today's digital devices, like the analog instruments that preceded them, amplify sound and transmit it down the ear canal to the eardrum. But the similarities end there. Thanks to digital technologies, modern aids offer better sound quality (above). Top-of-the-line models feature "directional" or "high definition" hearing. These devices use two microphones and an algorithm to enhance sound coming from the front (the person you are talking to), while tuning down sound coming from behind (the rest of the noisy party)."

HSS puts out a beamed planar wave of the desired audible content and delivers it at a level approximate to the source's level (obviates the need to turn up the source..which will aggravate the neighbors or awaken your slumbering spouse) ...and which, in addition to directly delivering the desired content vs extraneous audible noises, can 'force' the extraneous sound waves away.

Anecdotally, people have commented upon their better ability to hear and comprehend the source material..and filter it out from the background noise...(which is the bane of speech comprehension-perception for many hearing impaired), while standing in the HSS beam.

Best,
S.
