Seriously, I think the increasing polarization of the political parties has permeated the election process. It used to be that it didn't matter which party poll workers and election officers belonged to, you could count on them to be honest and objective in their jobs. No more. In fact, the Republican party in Washington is very, very upset with Secretary of State Reed (who collects election data and I think enforces election laws) because although he's a Republican he wasn't more strongly on their side. He has been the one bright spot in this process, actually doing his job in a nonpartisan manner. Rare.
