Could be a tempest in a teapot. As shredders become ever cheaper and more ubiquitous, more and more lawyers use them routinely. I shred all documents that I don't retain, including rough drafts of pleadings, extra copies, messed up photocopies, etc. Anything with a name, SS#, or account # should be shredded. The examples they gave in the article are shredding resumes, which is a Good Thing, and shredding payroll documents, which is a Very Good Thing.

I also shred CDs and diskettes.
