Ideological debates make more sense on purely philosophical issues like conformity/freedom, evangelism/tolerance, etc. I can see the sense behind those debates. But if a public policy issue can't be operationalized into a model that one can evaluate, it's a nonsensical question, Ideology sets the criteria you use to evaluate it. Tim
