It's very true there is no such thing as perfect objectivity - but a thesis that is "proved" by abstract assumptions rather than an attempt to model it that bears a passing resemblance to the real world....that's just an abstract assumption in and of itself.

If someone believes in "smaller government" I want to know what size they want, what they would cut from today's budget, the impact it would have, etc.

Cutting federal spending by 1/3 across the board would leave some major holes in a lot of programs that even "small government" people probably wouldn't want to lose if they benefit from them now. And even if they want the cuts they have to address the consequences; how would society make up for the missing spending and/or how would those affected react and cope?

You can make different assumptions along the way. But I want those questions to be asked and answered before I accept a sweeping declaration about public policy.
