"eighteen of our Presidential Elections were won by a candidate pulling less than 50% of the Popular Vote." LOL! Guess they didn't have much of a 'mandate'! Now Nixon... HE had a mandate. Reagan had a mandate. IMO though... anyone winning by just ONE state (especially in an election cycle when there was no big vote-drawing third party effort to siphon-off votes) ain't got a 'mandate'. He's got a plain old-fashioned WIN... but there's no extra icing on the cake.
