I doubt that report as well.

It is doubtful that these detainees who are reportedly fundamental extremists would do that. Muslims will not even say the Assalam-o-Alaikum (the normal greeting for Muslims) in the bathroom because it is a dirty place. They don't pray there or ever take religious literature in to read.

I can imagine that if a gaurd touched a Quran the detainees would object. It was probably something as simple as passing the Quran around and making comments about it that incited the complaints ... which were then exaggerated to this ridiculous level. If there were a couple of more aggregious offenses, I wouldn't be surprised and wouldn't hold it against the military for not knowing how serious it is to Muslims.
