Common Sense on the Left? By jkelly Irish Pennants Armed Liberal points us to a new blog, Democracy Arsenal, which is well worth a glance from time to time. It's the product of Democrats who actually think seriously about defense and foreign policy. As a conservative, I find much to quibble with about what the various contributors say. But mostly just quibbles, because the contributors clearly believe we are the good guys in the world, and we face real enemies. That's a healthy attitude, one I would like to see spread. When I was a young man, one of the politicians I most admired what Sen. Henry "Scoop" Jackson, though I disagreed with him on almost all domestic issues. That's because Scoop was honest as a midsummer day in the Arctic is long, tough as nails, and expert on defense. Had he won the Democratic nomination for president in 1976, I'd have voted for him. It would be wonderful if the spiritual heirs of Scoop -- or, for that matter, of Hubert Humphrey and Jack Kennedy -- could regain some influence in the Democratic party. irishpennants.com windsofchange.net democracyarsenal.org
