Thermo Electron Introduces Breakthrough Mass Spectrometry Technology Monday June 6, 2:47 pm ET
SAN ANTONIO, Texas, June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO - News) is unveiling several new products this week at the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Most significant is the launch of the LTQ Orbitrap(TM), a hybrid mass spectrometer that, compared to existing Time-of-Flight (TOF) technology, offers superior mass resolution and accuracy, detection power and dynamic range. The LTQ Orbitrap's patented technology represents possibly the most significant breakthrough in mass spectrometry since the introduction of the ion trap mass spectrometer over 20 years ago.
"This advancement in performance will offer critical benefits for our customers working in the fields of small molecules, metabolomics and drug discovery research," said Marc Casper, senior vice president of Thermo Electron. "The LTQ Orbitrap is the second hybrid mass spectrometer developed by Thermo and complements the award-winning LTQ FT Mass Spectrometer, which has also made solutions available to customers for top-down proteomics. As we continue to build the most dynamic mass spectrometry business in the world, we believe the LTQ Orbitrap will address the need for more precise and faster analyses, and provide our customers with a comprehensive selection of mass spectrometry technology and products."
Thermo is also launching the H-ESI (Heated Electrospray Ionization) Probe with Dual Desolvation Zone technology for the Finnigan TSQ(TM) Quantum triple quadrupole instruments. This probe enhances LC-MS/MS assay sensitivity up to eight times and provides significant advantages for demanding Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) applications.
"Our aggressive research and development efforts have placed Thermo in a unique position to offer advanced technologies and total laboratory solutions to our customers. In turn, our customers are able to stretch the boundaries of what is possible in their work to make the world a healthier, cleaner and safer place," continued Casper.
Thermo is hosting a press conference at ASMS on Monday, June 6 at 2:15 p.m. CST to provide information on all of its new mass spectrometry products and applications. For more information on this press conference, contact Lori Gorski at lori.gorski@thermo.com.
