"We needed and had a draft long before Vietnam." We had a draft in the Civil War. Remember the draft riots in NYC? Draft works when the ideals of the war are sold to the american people. Call me stupid but this administration lack of candor with the american people about iraq--not the wmds and all the bull shit from the left--but the lack of planning and competence in execuction post war is what i have in mind. "Nixon let immature, loud-mouthed teen-agers set strategic national defense policy. That was idiotic." No Johnson let military blow hards like Westmoreland and bureacrats like rumsfeld, er er macnamara get us into a war we should never have been in in the first place. Those immature, loud mouthed teenagers probalby prevented the Vietnam wall from having 50k more names. But we were winning, yeah i know--hear that here every day it seems.
