i think selling all the gold over some period of time to incrementally increase the SPR would be a rare intelligent investing decision for the United States. it is hard to imagine that gold will be more important than oil to the economy in the next century. since the gold is just a drop in the bucket compared to the money supply, it is of symbolic importance only.
