Kevin and Jack:

The one point you are missing is that MAPICS is a software package for predominately discrete manufacturers-- that is companies who build things, like TV sets, tables, and automobiles. Marcam Solutions' PRISM and Protean are for process manufacturers, those who make stuff, such as chemicals, foods and pharmaceuticals. Very different marketplaces, with different competitors and customer requirements.

Some companies play in both markets with the same package, but Marcam decided to have separate products for both.

MAPICS has a tremendous asset in their customer base, a dedicated distribution channel and a great technology story going into the future.

Marcam has had a ton of problems, but has the best products in their marketspace, and now that they have scaled back expenses are poised for profitability and/or sale.
