Mindmeld, They are fractious and they aren't sure what they want more, a state for themselves or all the Jews in Israel dead. As soon as they can answer that question for themselves, then they can begin to become part of the global community. Seems like even the global community can't answer that question. Sympathy for the terrorists and hatred against America is leading many to believe it's all Israel's fault. It seems to me that if a country is going to sit in judgement on a dispute, it should come from a place of fairness............and that should include the US. I certainly don't condone the behavior of the terrorists. However, I do understand the frustration of the Palestinians in this matter. In 1948, the Zionists had been abandoned by the Brits and were up a creek without a paddle. The US stepped in and insured that Israel became a free state. Since then, it has stepped in to help Israel on several occasions during its formative years. Now flash forward over 50 years.........times have changed. Israel is a military superpower in the region. Most of her people are comfortably middle class. No country dares mess with her. The US contributes $3 billion annually to her well being. Meanwhile, the Palestinians are continuing to rot in their refugee camps partly from their own doings but mostly from the doings of others. That's why Palestine invokes a desire for fairness from some of us. The lack of balance in the dispute is what has people upset. Meanwhile, the Palestinians continue to be used as pawns. No wonder they can't decide, because the forces controlling them really aren't interested in a Palestinian state. They are clear they want their own state. There is no ambiguity in that issue. And some also want Israel destroyed. What's not to understand here? This is not the first time a people is of two minds. I suspect that once a Palestinian state is established, the minority who want Israel destroyed will grow smaller over time. ted
