$356 billion, one-party rule, the 2004 war-time-president campaign, a new generation of jihadists etc. etc. These do affect us although not nearly as much as having someone you know stuck in Iraq.

It's a major war AND instead of the Rumsfeld petri-dish experiment that is Iraq, we should have nearly 3 times as many in that country.

We spend a little over $300 billion a year paying the interest on our national debt. $356 billion to date is real money. I've heard that it's enough to pay the tuition of every college student for a year.

Besides, it's not as if we're taking this from our savings, we're borrowing it like a spendthrift teenager.
