It is funny--a few years ago the biotech message
boards were abuzz: Everything was exciting.
Many of us with nothing more than vague notions
of what these companies do felt comfortable
trading in and out, rapid fire, as if valuation
should indeed be a function of news flow.

Over the course of a year in 2002 I took
most of my money off the table as the sector
settled into a funk. Briefly got into some
blue chips (and would have done well to hold
those the past few years) but mostly realized
that it is awfully hard to distinguish one
company from another. Now, virtually the only
thing I look at is the balance sheet, and even
that hasn't done me any good so far this year.

Heh, from one extreme to another. It has
been generally entertaining, and I do have
a better appreciation for the risks in this
sector. I can't tell you whether icor is going
to zero or will double, but it is the only
biotech penny stock I would dare own for the
moment, and I consider it to be suitable for
gambling money only.
