Mrs. Robinson, RIP.

The great Anne Bancroft has died. Bancroft was a great dame and truly a star.

By marrying and staying married to Mel Brooks, she gave hope to millions of ugly men throughout the world who counted on personality and humor above looks. To be married to Anne Bancroft must have been an unending joy. From the Miracle Worker to The Graduate, she imbued every role with verve and class. She displayed a sense of humor and glamor in every character she played.

We'll put The Graduate on tonight and wish her Godspeed, noticing how she twirls an earring or the way she smiles with the corners of her mouth down-turned. There have been few actors who could portray amusement and sadness so completely.

Anne Bancroft was an unbelievably sexy 73.
