JFK was going to end the Vietnam war and only had a few thousand Green Berets in there working with local tribes.
His intention to withdraw may have gotten him killed by the rightwing hawks.

It was Johnson and Nixon who escalated the war with the help Brown + Root (Halliburton) and Bectel based on total lies told to the American people. Johnson started it and Nixon took it to its zenith. Nixon was the worst because by then he knew it was a hopeless failure but he kept escalating for years costing us the majority of our 55,000 casualties.

If you want to compare Bush to LBJ, at least LBJ admitted his mistakes and had the dignity to resign and not run again. Bush would have done us a huge favor by retiring in 2004. He only won re-election by the biggest wave of lies and smears in US political history.
