My father, who grew up in France, often wondered why all the democracies didn't have a foreign legion like France did. Much easier to use without domestic pressure. In America's case, it would be super easy to fill, serve x numbers of years, get an honorable discharge, become a citizen.

Any thoughts?

I have met two men who served in the FFL. They were both recruited in Algiers. Neither became a French Citizen. And I am certain France did not want them as citizens.

If a substantial and sufficient number of Americans do not believe this country and way of life are worth preserving and fighting for, why would a foreigner?

I don't think the solution to our lack of recruits is to hire foreigners to fight. I'd prefer to have mandatory third world country visits by our own citizens, so they can compare what they have.
