Apple loyalty high but challenges abound
By Peter Cohen pcohen@maccentral.com

Market research firm MetaFacts Inc. offered up a new report that indicates that more than half of all households with Macs are planning on buying another one or had previously owned one. MetaFacts also points to challenges for Apple going forward.

That number is the highest it’s been in more than a decade and is up from last year, according to MetaFacts principal analyst Dan Ness. “This is good news for Apple. Even more good news is the percent of Apple households planning to buy another Apple home computer also increased,” said Ness in a recent statement.

However, all is not rosy in Apple’s world. Ness said the survey also showed that most households with Macs also have a Windows computer. And the research suggests that Macs are losing ground as the primary computer in the house. What’s more, the number of households with multiple Macs is also dropping.

“If Apple’s best customers lose faith, it makes it that much harder for Apple,” said Ness.

MetaFacts sells the the results of its survey in a 300 page report entitled “Apple Macintosh Market Profile Report.” The report costs US$3,600.
