The only problem with leaving too much up to the states is that no state is purely red or blue. Even TX had a 1/3 vote for Kerry. I don't think people in Texas should be deprived of a right or freedom that is granted in California. American wasn't meant to be 50 little fiefdoms with diametrically opposite customs. For me, if people have a right to do as they please up to a certain limit, that limit has to apply everywhere I go in the US without taking a passport with me. I just wish we didn't have such an incompetent bunch of *&%^ups in Washington making most of these decisions.
