It's an interesting debate between your well-founded ideas on small-scale ways to expand personal freedoms and rights on the one hand, and my fervently-held belief about equal protection for all on the other.

Politicians at local and state level always seemed more likely to impose unreasonable restrictions than grant new freedoms; the whole civil rights issue comes to mind, access to abortion clinics, separation of church and state, etc. (I love the conservative judges who want a Ten Commandments monument in a courthouse that hands out the death penalty).

In the end it's all about how to get the unreasonable yahoos off our back. My cynicism says that people seek political power to wield it over others, whether it's in Washington or Waxahachie.
