None of those are really good life choices. Everyone getting pigeonholed in the same sorry situation isn't a good life choice, either. It's no choice at all. I realize that giving local entities more authority isn't perfect and that there will be anomalies. There is no perfection to be had. Difficult choice is better than no choice. And I think you are dreaming if you think that most things on a national level will be satisfactory to you, not in today's climate. I think it's harder to go wildly off the rails when a whole diverse country is watching you I don't buy that. If your locality does something really squirrelly, you can notify one of those national media that have such fun outing squirrelly local actions.
