Well, the thing about the $300 - it was just an ADVANCE on their tax refund! Money they'd have gotten later anyway. A brilliant stroke of Rove marketing genius. All the poor right wingnuts STILL remember it with a kind of revenant wonder. It's the only check as lot of people have EVER gotten from the government that wasn't their regular tax refund, so, it seemed like the government was GIVING them money! That alone probably bought him the votes to beat Kerry.
