Firstly--I will post to SI Dave when I return from vacation in a couple of weeks. I suspect he will be man enough to apologize to the thread--and to me...and censure you for your behavior. Secondly, I will not waste too much of my vacation time confounding the posts of a dolt.

However, I will make some obvious observations.

"I think I have very carefully distinguished between individual Human Persons that come in to existence at the moment of conception and skin cells which consist exclusively of your DNA"

Siamese twins are TWO individuals--NOT ONE. That is why we use the plural word "TWINS". Siamese twins are separate as "individuals"--and from a religious perspective they have SEPARATE and UNIQUE "souls". So--did these souls exist at conception (for some unexplained reason)...or did they flip into the different (non-existent) awareness of the twins a week or more later??

And why do you value human dna (at the level of a speck) over an earth worm--a dna speck which has no awareness and is far less functional and valuable ecologically than said earth worm? One would think that the former has only potential value while the latter has actual value?

I can appreciate a potential mother and/or father ascribing value to this speck because it is THEIR property. But what makes your little heart cry and your little voice blubber when people exercise THEIR right to decide what they will do with THEIR sperm, or egg--or fertilized egg??

It appears to me that the only life you value is life which has "human" dna. Inasmuch as we share common genes with fruit flies, monkeys, and everything else...one is nonplussed at your arbitrary thinking.

When independent adult humans lose EEG function we consider them dead and without rights. Yet you consider blastocysts to be "alive" and just loaded with "rights". So, I suppose you believe that all dead people should have rights; that we should protect the "rights" of all creatures that have human DNA but no awareness? Put all the dead people and all the blastocysts in a pyramid the size of Canada and leave food at the door! You are a joke!

You have simply engaged in slogan argumentation. You have shown a prejudice toward human DNA over all other living DNA. Yet that which makes humans distinct (higher level intelligence and mastery of environment)--you have dismissed by equating humans with dust mites and pebbles. To your credit, you have indicated previously (ON THE RECORD) that potentiality is not a part of your argument: that you value the equivalent of dust mites simply because they have certain genes. It is not important to your argument that they have the POTENTIAL to acquire unsurpassed ignorance and cruelty--and the capacity to endure a horrible life of suffering and awareness of suffering. It IS sufficient (for such as you) that the "DNA" can be classified as "human". Of course...there is a "soul" in that dust mite! Now you know why YOUR soul is so tiny and invisible!
