Support for Authoritarianism, ever-bigger and more intrusive central government can be found on *BOTH* sides of the economic 'left/right' political axis.

... They just differ in what they want the bigger, more powerful government to DO FOR THEM.

Many people who hale from both sides of the 'left/right' divide fall into the pro-bigger government camp (the Authoritarian camp), and they simply have different uses for the stronger government.

Which is why the overly simplistic 'left/right' axis is so totally inadequate these days --- it completely ignores the equally important 'north/south' Authoritarian/Libertarian axis.
