Am I close ?? or do you use som other method?

Aa you know,MAs are used to evaluate trends in both the short-term and long term. A short term moving average usually ranges from 5 to 25 days, an intermediate from 25 to 100, and long-term 100 to 250 days.
When using programs like TC2000 you can make a "rainbow display" of averages like 5,10, 15, 30, 45, 50, etc. and you could also make a "private formula" for scanning charts that have a specific pattern of average position so you could get results showing a group of charts that are in a short, medium or long term trend.
I usually try to keep things simple if I can and I don't use TC2000 for scanning charts for MAs, although I use it for other scans (like Last Q results, gappers, short interest ratio, Debt/Eqt. Ratio, surge in Money Stream,PE,revenue growth last 4Qs, and a couple of others if I have the time.<g>)
When I refer to S,M,& L averages, it is of the exponential averages as calculated by IQ charts and they adjust them for whatever period they use on their formula. It usually gives me good data wether I am looking at the chart on a one minute, 5, 10,15,30,60 minutes, daily, weekly or monthly point of view. And gives me the value of the averages at any point on the chart.
IQCharts has also a good scanning capabilities. You can use templates or make your own formula.
Besides TC2000 and IQcharts, I also use Investors Daily "Daily Graphs On Line" which plots the 200 day average as a black line and the 50 days average as red line.In their chart you can glance at the PE ratio, earnings and revenues for the last 4Qs, Estimates if available, EPS Rating, Group RS Rating, insiders buys or sales, and a few others. It saves me a lot of time and I think it is worth the price.<g>
I also have been using S&P's "Current Market Perspectives" for more than 40 yrs., but no longer use their Trendline "Daily Action Charts" which I liked, but the data was obsolete because of the mail delivery.
Don't know if this answers your question or if it is of any help.<g>
