I hope I've NEVER said I was sin free. I used to post in a similar manner to you, I've said that many times. I found it impeded my ability to communicate, and a lot of people ignored me. Perhaps you do not find this, if so, my apologies for generalizing from my own experience.
I have found that getting along with people is the main currency on SI (and in life, for that matter.) If this has not been your experience, than we have not experienced the same reality. That's interesting.
I think there is value in depersonalizing posts, and my apologies if my post to you was too personal. I think the more we take people's names out of posts, and just write about ideas, or behavior, the more peaceful SI will be. Does that mean there will be no fighting? No. But the fewer personal attacks there are, the more meaningful the rest of the conversations will be, imo.
If you perceived my post as a personal attack, I'm sorry. I was being too honest, and was not as focused on getting along with you as I could have been (which kind of proves my point, that getting along is the way to facilitate communication on SI, and attacks, whether intentional or not, totally escalate anger, and impede communication). The personal attack that you perceived in my post was an attempt by me to explain why moderators ban you. It's probably impossible to explore that topic without being hurtful, so I'm sorry I tried to address it. On the other hand, I think I can also say that is also hurtful, and perhaps even more hurtful, to see people mention your name when you never talk about them. I think it's also hard to watch people attack other people for no apparent reason, aside from the fact that those people believe in different ideas. I still think it's very important to separate the idea from the people. Even if I fail to do it all the time (and I really make an effort, even if you think I fail often) it's critical. Obviously people here on SI get very emotional about ideas, and even go so far as to hate them, but if we can stop from hating people, or attacking people in ways that make it look as if we hate them, I think SI would be a better place.
I'm sorry if you were upset by my post and thought it was an attack. That was not my intent, but I didn't edit the post as carefully as I could have to take the more personal stuff out, or change it to 3rd person, and make it general, rather than about you personally. I usually do that. I can see how you could consider it an attack and for that I truly apologize. It was a mistake. It was probably a mistake to come over here at all, but I would like SI to be a more charitable peaceful place. Obviously not everyone wants that, but I do, however imperfectly I try to achieve it. |
