I agree with much of what you say. I just dont think this oughtta be an open ended committment. Imagine the nightly news 5 years from now being much the same as today. I think there comes a point when the iraqis either pass or fail their test as graded by us.
You more than anyone knows what vietnam did to this country. The iraq war cannot be a repeat. We have already agreed that US army is understaffed. A draft in the middle of the iraq war would be a PR nightmare for the govt in power. Parents are already keeping their kids out of recruitment centers. Public opinion whether right or wrong is turning against the war. We cant let one "battle" in the WOT become so important. There are fall back positions like timelines, benchmarks, 3 states that can minimize any loss. I still believe timeline galvanizes iraqis to fight more than it gives the terrorist any aid or comfort.
FWIW, Jim Miklasheveski reported this morning that Barry McCafferty is becoming more optimistic about a good outcome.
