If Texans didn't have oil, what would they brag about for the entire last century?

The residue of rotting bodies and vegetation per chance finding a repository under the state. Ditto the Saudis.

If the US of A had taken the last oil shocks to heart, would we be in this mess? When the heck did we get the idea that it's ok to commute in a Suburban?

When and how did the world get so flooded with oil for that two decade space of time?
