There was a time when, if a person, or persons, burned the American flag
"There was a time when, if a[n American] person, or persons, burned the American flag," it was out of principled anguish over something terribly, terribly wrong they thought their beloved country was doing and they were trying to get people to see how serious the problem was.
That's may not be the case anymore, to the extent that anyone is still burning flags, that is. I imagine that flag burning has gone declasse now, just like everything else.
Any American, natural born, or otherwise, should respect that allegiance.
The allegiance is to the country. The flag is just a proxy. (It gives you a direction to face when you're pledging. <g>) |
