There could be a big government department dedicated to Defending the Flag. There could be rules defining how many stripes comprise a flag. Their dimensions. How many starts. Shapes. Materials.

<How will you define "American Flag" for the purpose of this law against flag burning?

We have standard regulation cloth flags, cheap little trinket flags, flag patches, paper window flags, postage stamp flags, t-shirt flags, underwear flags, bikini thong flags, etc.

Isn't there a danger you will end up in the same awkward position as liberals trying to define "assault rifle" for the purpose of banning them?

Gainful taxpayer-funded employment for thousands could be had as defiant individualists test their freedoms.

Courts could have a lot of fun, lawyers could make lots of profits. Gaolers could have a whole new market segment. Fines could be demanded.

It would be another problem area in the cant about "Freedom" in the USA. Especially if conscription is brought back.

In New Zealand, we have Tame Iti, who has been charged with some firearms offence after he shot a NZ flag. images.google.co.nz

I think it's quite reasonable expression and he's quite a character. Having people like him around has got many positive attributes.

<Police have charge Iti with firearms offences and with desecration of the flag at a marae in Ruatoki in the Bay of Plenty.>

I didn't know we had such a dopey law. Typical of our bossy aunties in Helengrad though maybe it pre-dates them.
