Here is a Democratic program a lot of Americans can get behind (from a bright poster on the Conyers Blog)...

conyersblog.us

1. End corruption in government, both at the state and federal level. End Pay to Play. End money laundering. End government legislation to the highest bidder.

2. Return fiscal sanity to government. Quit running the largest deficits in the history of the world.

3. End shifting of taxes to the middle and lower income classes. End tax giveaways for the richest 1 or 2 per cent of Americans.

4. Quit lying to send our Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Sailors and Coast Guardsmen into harm's way. In case you are not sure which lies I am discussing here, they are: WMD, Iraqi operational ties to Al Quaeda, Iraq was an imminent threat, Uranium from Africa, Aluminum tubes can "only be used in Centrifuges", unmanned aerial vehicles, capable of delivering WMD's to America, we will be welcomed with flowers, as liberators, slam dunk, cakewalk, the insurgency is weakening . . .

5. Run clean elections.

6. End unconstitutional legislation, particularly those intended to take individual liberties away in the name of security.

7. Have an administration that tells the truth to our international partners and advesaries.

8. Run a campaign based upon hope, not fear.

9. Develop an exit strategy for Iraq that meets our obligation to leave a functional government behind, and stops the bloodshed on both sides. Or on all 3 sides, since it has degenerated into a Civil war which was predicted by a National Intelligence Estimate, that George W. Bush dismissed as, "they're just guessing". They guessed right, just another example of the misuse or nonuse of intelligence by the Bush administration.

10. Rebuild our international alliances.

11. Rebuild our military so that we can have Peace through Strength, and end our PNAC imperialism, which with its aggressive stance of weaponization of space is guaranteed to start another arms race, when the world's resources should be directed to saving the planet we all share.

12. Establish an energy policy that recognizes and rewards conservation, not energy companies at the expense of our pocketbooks and the environment.

13. Re-establish a genuine commitment to protect our environment for ourselves and the future generations, to whom we owe a decent world to live in.

14. Reinvigorate nuclear nonproliferation. Have Nonproliferation negotiators that are committed to the concept, not destroyers like John Bolton.

15. Impeach all who took our nation to war, not as a last resort to a real threat, but for the first time in 229 years of American history, took us to war on a concept of pre-emption against a nation that was not being belligerent, nor had generated a causis belli, despite provocations by the United States and England.

16. Remove all corrupt politicans who legislate to the highest bidder, launder money, and have squandered the public trust.

17. Protect the Constitution of the United States, eliminate the shameless court-packing of the Bush Administration.

18. End the arrogant rule of Bill Frist, Dennis Hastert, Tom DeLay and James Sensenbrenner in the Congress.

I think this is a platform Democrats can win with, and one that will appeal to millions of voters.
