Karen, My mention of tarring, and feathering, was purposely an embellishment on the penalties for burning the flag. I still believe that anyone that burns the American flag should be punished in a way that will make them think twice before the do it again. The flag represents each, and every, American that has lost his life in the defense of, or the advancement of, this nation and has meaning beyond being just another banner.
I don't know all the stories, but you would be surprised at how many lives have, willingly, been risked to retrieve, and save, that flag. To many of us, it is not "just" a flag. |
