I think there is a big difference between a flag destroyed by a terrorist act you describe, and it's deliberate destruction in order to arouse emotion by individuals in a protest.

I was not comparing the two. How any flag came to be under threat is irrelevant to my point.

I was addressing the question of whether or not it's nuts to die or kill for a flag. If you wouldn't risk losing your life to dally over saving the flag in my example, then you're not really willing to die for your flag.

I submit that when people here say they would die for their flag they really mean that they would die for what their flag stands for and are mysteriously conflating the two. I'm trying, along with others here, to get them to recognize it.
