Back when I bought my first Mercedes diesel the common slang was that "the diesel engine was different from the internal combustion engine". It operates under much more block pressure so the engine has to be made thicker etc.
Of course all engines are combusted internally, but there is a difference between the conventional ones and diesels.
Not to argue the point though.
