John C, Don't knock bifocals. They work just fine behind the aiming sight.
The most fun I had, was in a combat engineer company, and we were charged with operating the ranges for qualification of the whole battalion. They don't exist, in the military, anymore, but we fired the M1 Garand rifle, M1 carbine, M2 carbine full auto, 45 cal. automatic pistol, BAR bipod mounted, 30 cal. machine gun air cooled, 30 cal. machine gun water cooled, 50 cal. MG tripod mounted, 50 cal. MG ring mounted, 45 cal. grease gun, tossed grenades, and the 3.5 rocket launcher, or bazooka. We were told not to turn any unused rounds back, and had a bunch of 3.5 rockets left over, so me, and the other instructors fired away at two old tank targets, and blew the turret off one of them. We all went home with two of those big ball bearings in our pockets. |
