Hi geode00; Re: "Who knew that the hard-working US middle class family, stressed out of its mind with two incomes and mountains of bills had so much spare change to give away?"
Optional wars are generally a bad idea. War is one of the least efficient things man does. War is incredibly expensive, because you must, in effect pay people to die.
I don't blame the administration for the waste of the war in Iraq, that is universal in war. What I blame them for is starting the thing in the first place. I think that by going on and on about the waste, you're diverting attention away from the real issue.
The real issue is that the war in Iraq is against US interests.
By the way, I just read Daniel Ellsberg's comment to the effect that neither the Republicans nor the Democrats could get us out of Iraq at this time:
... I do not foresee that we will be getting out of Iraq immediately, soon, or for a very long time. In fact, it is hard for me to see when that will be. When we will leave the oil of the Middle East and the oil of Iraq to the control of people who are not our collaborators, people who are not determined to be friendly to Israel and unfriendly to Iran, another Shi’a state. When do we leave it to those people? It will be a long time, frankly, under Democrats or Republicans. ... Message 21410935
This is why I voted for Bush in 2004 despite his getting us into the war. And you can hardly accuse Ellsberg of being a Republican sympathizer. The simple truth is that the Democratic presidential candidate, (what was his name again) repeatedly said that he would stay the course.
