Second, I used some pretty strong words to introduce the article because I wanted some of you to read it.

Probably counter productive. You can emphasize the importance of the subject, or the quality of the piece in your introduction and you might get a few more people to read it. But if you introduce it with a rant you probably get less readers.

Since the men sending men to die aren't going themselves, aren't sending their own families and probably won't

They are two old to go, and they can't send their families. Their family members make their own decisions in life.

The Iraqis aren't stupid and the guys fighting us seem to do a fairly effective job fighting against our much more sophisticated technology.

That depends on how you define "fairly effective". Our technology, our numbers, and most important our training our superior. The Iraqi insurgency does a fairly effective job of being able to keep itself in existence while mounting frequent very small attacks, and occasional relatively small attacks against this superior force. Its smart enough that it can avoid putting itself in to a situation where we can destroy it. If that is "fairly effective", than it is fairly effective.

No, it's not training they need, its a cause worth dying for.

They already have that, and many of them would agree that they have it.

I'm sure the story of that one unit was true, I'm also sure that there are other units like that one. But that doesn't mean they all are, or that the quality of Iraqi units isn't rising. They are becoming more effective and taking a larger role. Progress has been painfully slow but it has been real.

All of us have inborn tribal instincts that do not allow the men of the tribe to tolerate strange men who come to rule. It is that way in small groups and it's that way in large ones. If you don't believe me then think about how you'd feel if the situation was reversed and foreign men with guns had power over you, your woman, your property, your movements, your freedom and your life.

I'd rather have foreign soldiers, that acted like American and British soldiers, supporting the elected government of my country, than I would want to live under someone like Saddam or his sons.
