Indeed, somehow, the issue is not about whether Michael is a hopeless pedophile or not but whether he is the ONLY pedophilic celebrity in the US. We might reasonably assume that, were Michael Jackson a white celebrity or the scion of a powerful white dynasty from Texas, Louisiana, or California, he'd have been whitewashed no sweat! Just recall the Chandra Levy (unsolved) affair....
Well, I guess that's how justice works in America: black celebrities can cross the line and get away with it (OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson,...) only because white celebrities can do likewise in the first place.
Well, I have to say that Michael Jackson is pretty much white these days.....eliminating the racial tone to the trial. <g>
Actually, I am not as cynical as you and I don't think race had anything to do with it. After the trial, at least two jurors made it known that they thought Jackson was a pedophile. However, the problem is the same problem that has afflicted other famous trials.........the prosecution did not prove beyond "a shadow of doubt" that he was guilty. That's a prerequisite for finding someone guilty in a jury trial.
The accusor's mother didn't help matters. She was trailer trash at its worst and legal pundits were predicting she lost the case for the prosecution as early as last month. She was successfully portrayed by the defense as the worst kind of opportunist. Pundits also believed the prosecution's case was flawed in other areas.........that their 'proof' was weak.
Nonetheless, in the court of public opinion, most here think Jackson is guilty as charged. In fact, Jackson's CD sales in the US have plummeted in the past couple of years. However, they continue to do well in Europe and Japan. Why do you think that is?
